Who are we

Our Story

In 2016, media personality and social Entrepreneur, Tshepo “Dj @ Large” Kgapane embarked on a journey to foster change in the way that young South Africans, think and plan for their financial futures. His passion for financial literacy led him to the creation of Youth Money Circle. A set of free events aimed at educating young people about money through real and unconventional group dialogue and debate pinned on the experiences of relatable experts. Through this approach and the use of music, games and activities, we have found a way to make the conversation around money cool and interesting.

Mission

Our mission is to inspire, educate and empower the youth of South Africa with respect to financial literacy. To impact their behaviour, leading to better money management in the future.

Vision

Inspire a positive culture of savings and investments among the youth of South Africa

How we make money cool

Youth Money Circle is not one of those boring seminars, conferences of workshops, but an informal environment for dialogue and debate around various financial topics with relatable experts. The youth in attendance are encouraged to interact with the different experts, thus sharing information and ideas. We also use music, fashion and beauty, comedy, slush cocktails and games as tools to start conversations around money.

The events

Each event runs for a duration of 4 hours with 4 unique speakers on a Saturday morning. A competent host is selected to drive the dialogue during each session which tackles a different financial topic. The invited expert is asked various questions by the host in a panel discussion format. During each session, attendees are encouraged to interject and ask additional questions, thus stimulating debate and knowledge.
